Coronavirus

Coronavirus or COVID-19 is a global pandemic as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Many countries in Africa and the rest of the world have implemented preventative measures to contain the spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus can cause severe symptoms, particularly in the elderly and people with weakened immune systems and conditions such as asthma, diabetes, cancer, lung and heart disease. Symptoms that include fever and a dry cough may progress to pneumonia and breathing difficulties.

We all have a responsibility to reduce the spread of the virus in order to protect ourselves, our families and our communities.

At Ecobank we are committed to the safety of our staff and customers and are following guidance from the WHO, governments and health agencies where we operate.

You can read a message from our Group CEO Ade Ayeyemi on COVID-19 here.

We are implementing the following best practice:

  • Our business and employees
    • We have suspended all non-essential business travel and cancelled physical meetings, replacing them with virtual meetings.
    • Hand-shaking has stopped and people must maintain a 1 metre distance from each other.
    • Our employees are advised to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time and use alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
    • Any employees with a cough, high temperature and difficulty breathing or who have recently been to a country at risk are required to self-isolate for 14 days.
    • We have a business continuity plan in case there is a lockdown in any of the countries in which we operate.
  • At Ecobank premises, branches and ATMs

  • Stay safe from cyber crime

There is currently an increase in online fraud as criminals are capitalising on the COVID-19 pandemic to commit cyber crime.

Stay alert and stay safe online by following our advice:

    • We will never ask you to provide personal banking information (such as your card number, PIN or Ecobank Mobile app activation code) via phone, email or SMS. Always ignore such requests.
    • Never share any confidential information, such as your username and password, with anyone. Do not share your personal details, such as date of birth, on social media as criminals can use this to identify you.
    • Always check you’re on the authentic Ecobank website when you sign in to online banking  – a locked padlock in your browser address bar means the page is secure.
    • Beware of phishing attempts. Criminals send emails including links to fake web pages so they can steal your data. if you receive a suspicious looking email claiming to be from Ecobank please report it to us here
    • We update our security constantly – download the latest version of the Ecobank Mobile app if you use mobile banking. Always download the latest security updates for your web browser and operating system.
