Western Union can be sent or received using the following:

  • Ecobank account via Retail Internet Banking
  • ATMs* (receive only)
  • At Ecobank branches and agent locations

Western Union and Ecobank have developed an exciting new service called Account Based Money Transfer (ABMT). This innovative transfer service allows you to receive your Western Union money transfer through your Ecobank account. You can visit any Ecobank branch (ATM) or use Ecobank Internet Banking to move money to your bank account.

  • How a Western Union transfer works from your account or at an ATM

    To send money online:

    1. Sign-in to Ecobank Internet Banking
    2. Enter the details of where you’re sending the money to
    3. Review all the information
    4. Check the terms and conditions
    5. If everything is correct, confirm your transaction
    6. Your transfer will then be processed and you’ll receive a 10-digit MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number)
    7. You'll receive a receipt once the transaction has been successfully processed, which you can then print
     

    To receive money online:

    1. Sign-in to Ecobank Internet Banking
    2. Enter your MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number), the country where the money has been sent from and the amount you’ll be receiving in the currency of your country
    3. If you have more than one account, choose the one you want to use for this transaction
    4. Review all the information
    5. If everything is correct, complete the transfer
    6. When Western Union receives confirmation, your funds will be deposited into your account
    7. You'll receive a receipt once the transaction has been successfully processed, which you can then print

    *ATM availability depends on which country you are in. Please ask your branch for more details.
  • How a Western Union transfer works from an Ecobank branch

    To send money in-branch:

    1. Go to any Ecobank or accredited agents
    2. You will be asked to fill out a form specifying the beneficiary address and the amount to be sent
    3. You will be issued with a 'Money Transfer Control Number' - MTCN that you will need to communicate to the recipient (Please do not disclose this number to a third party)
    4. Send the receipt the MTCN and your secret test question and answer to collect the money
     

    To receive money in-branch:

    1. Go to any Ecobank branch or accredited agents
    2. You will be asked to fill out a form specifying the sender’s name, address and the amount sent
    3. You will be required to provide a valid ID, preferably a passport
    4. Once the information supplied is verified and confirmed you will be paid the money sent, immediately
