Terms and Conditions

(Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully)

By applying for the Ecobank (“ENG”/”the Bank”) MasterPass, the Merchant acknowledges and accepts the below listed Terms & Conditions. Notwithstanding anything contained herein, all Terms & Conditions pertaining to the accounts shall continue to apply.

  • A charge of 0.75% of the transaction amount with a cap of N1,200 shall apply depending on the merchant category.
  • The Merchant agrees and acknowledges that ENG shall in no way be held responsible or liable if the Merchant incurs any loss as a result of information being disclosed by ENG regarding its Account(s) or for implementing the instructions of the Merchant pursuant to use of the MasterPass and the Merchant shall fully indemnify and hold harmless ENG in respect of the same.
  • The Merchant agrees that it will not use this MasterPass for money laundering or violate any law related to money laundering.
  • ENG reserves the right to demand an explanation or explanations from the Merchant regarding any matter pertaining to money laundering law(s) of Nigeria.
  • The Merchant acknowledges that this service is reliant on the availability and functionality of the mobile networks and outside the direct control of the Bank. Consequently, the Bank shall not be liable to the Merchant or any 3rd party claiming through it for any claim of loss of earnings/income or any damages or sums whatsoever as a result of the service/ network failure.
  • The Merchant shall not discriminate against any Mobile banking customer who uses His/her mobile phone for payment for goods and services except in cases of suspicion of fraud.
  • The Merchant shall bear responsibility and liability for all local, state and federal government taxes due on its transactions.
  • The Merchant shall honor all mobile payments regardless of the issuing bank
  • The Merchant shall not misuse, damage, alter, and attempt to alter or tamper with the MasterPass (QRCode & Card).
  • The Merchant shall notify the Bank if the MasterPass(QRCode & Card) is damaged or stolen so that the Bank can replace and report to the appropriate quarters to stop communication on the stolen or damaged MasterPass kit
  • The Bank may debit the Merchant’s account for the cost of replacing or repairing a MasterPass damaged or reported stolen while in the possession of the Merchant.
  • The Merchant shall not disclose to any third party the fees charged by the Bank on its MasterPass transactions unless required by law or regulatory agencies and the merchant is obliged to inform the Bank of any such disclosure.
  • The Merchant shall under no circumstances charge a different price, surcharge a cardholder or otherwise discriminate any member of the public who choose to pay with a card or by other electronic means.
  • The Merchant shall be held liable for frauds with the card arising from its negligence, connivance, etc.

    • The Merchant shall display the QRCode and Merchant ID conspicuously enough for the customer to reach and complete a transaction.
    • Merchant shall bear responsibility and liability for the security of MasterPass assigned to them and in their custody.
    • The Merchant will be responsible for any liabilities arising from unauthorized usage by third party and use of their Cards for illegal transactions within their custody. Where possible install a CCTV camera at the point of sale.
    • Settlement transaction alerts would be sent via SMS and optionally by e mail notification.
    • Merchants shall not move MasterPass from the point of installation without prior written notice to the Bank except for mobile Merchants.
    • The Bank reserves the right at its sole discretion, to withdraw its MasterPass arising from inadequate or no transactional activity on the MasterPass assigned to the Merchant after 60days.
    • MasterPass assigned to merchants are expected to be in active use weekly/monthly.. Merchants are to ensure adequate usage.
  • These Terms and/or the operations of the Accounts of the Merchant shall be governed by the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
