Our Initiatives

Sandbox (Ecobank API)

Ecobank’s pan-African banking sandbox offers fintechs the unique opportunity to access Ecobank’s APIs to build and test their products.

The intention is that fintechs and partners will use this access to develop innovative solutions for the 33 African countries where Ecobank operates.

Fintech Challenge

The Ecobank Fintech Challenge identifies and partners fintechs that are ready to scale, then provides them with support and access to Ecobank’s 33 African markets, so that they can maximise their potential and become pan-African fintech success stories.

The Challenge is open to all fintechs on the African continent. Interested fintechs can apply by sending details of their product with a demo. These products must address one or more of the specific pain points announced before each edition.

Selected finalists will then participate in the Ecobank Fintech Innovation Fair, where the top three finalists will win cash prizes. All finalists are inducted into the Ecobank Fintech Fellowship, which gives them the opportunity to explore deals, integration and commercial partnership with the Ecobank Group.

The Fintech Challenge is all about building new partnerships. Our goal is to build a bridge between Ecobank and the African fintech ecosystem; to open up our multi-country banking platform in ways that enable fintechs to leverage it for their own growth. In this way we seek to champion a new type of partnership that enables fintechs to deliver their services to those who need them most across the continent.

Case Story 1:

Finance Mobile Ltd

Who

Finance Mobile Ltd, is a Fintech startup and a 2017 Ecobank Fintech Fellow. Finance Mobile now works with Ecobank in 12 countries across Africa.

What

Through the Fellowship, Finance Mobile partnered Ecobank to build the Ecobank Investor™ app for Ecobank’s investment banking arm.

How

Ecobank Investor™ enables Ecobank customers to use their smart phone to manage their investment portfolio. The solution provides investment advisory and analytics support to guide customers to make informed investment decisions and maximise value across a range of investment products and choices.

Where

The product is currently being deployed in 12 of Ecobank’s 33 country footprint, with plans to expand to 20 markets soon.

Impact

For Finance Mobile Ltd – the partnership has served as a powerful springboard for growth and cross-border expansion.

For Ecobank and its customers – Ecobank Investor™ has brought greater convenience, flexibility and accessibility to our investment products. The solution is projected to significantly increase the number of Ecobank customers subscribing to our investment products and services.

Semoa

Who

Semoa is a fintech offering payment and customer relationship digital solutions. It developed one of its solutions on the Ecobank Sandbox and is now working together with Ecobank in Togo.

What

Using the Ecobank Sandbox, Semoa developed a new digital banking service via Whatsapp called ‘Xpress Cash by Semoa’

How

Xpress Cash by Semoa enables Ecobank customers in Togo to send a Whatsapp message to Semoa’s BOT called Dédé to send tokens for withdrawals, payment of bills or money transfers to friends or relatives in Togo or across the WAEMU region.

Where

The product is available in Togo.

Impact

Semoa’s secured online services utilise Ecobank’s cutting-edge infrastructure to provide a solution to cross the divide between the digital and cash economies. It enables the unbanked to accept and make payments digitally, thereby accelerating financial inclusion.
